Shivaji's army carried out guerrilla warfare through sudden attacks on the enemy, after which they would quickly hide in the nearby jungles or hills. Q2. Why did Aurangzeb send Shaista Khan to capture Shivaji? Ans2. Aurangzeb, the Mughal emperor, was trying to conquer South India and to do that he had to defeat Shivaji so he send Shaista Khan to capture Shivaji in 1663 CE. Q3. Who capture Shivaji and where was he imprisoned? Ans3. Shivaji was captured by Aurangzeb's rajput general, Jai Singh. He was later imprisoned in Agra fort. Q4. Where did Shivaji become king? Where was his capital? Ans4. Shivaji became king of marathas in 1674 CE. His capital was at Raigarh. Q5. How do we know that Shivaji was a great ruler? Ans5. We know that Shivaji was a great ruler because he was able to challenge the powerful mughals and remained an independent ruler.

Kali and the Rat Snake


AnsamKALI AND THE RAT SNAKE Ans 1. Kali belonged to the Irula tribe. The people of this tribe are f Ans 1. Kali belonged to the Irula tribe. The people of this tribe are famous for their ability to catch snakes. 2. As he was walking to school Kali thought that he had no friends even after two months. The other children thought that his fathers profession of catching snakes very strange, so they did not like to be his friend. 3. Kali did not want to share his tiffin because he brought fried termites.and the other children would have found it very strange. 4. The children spotted a rat snake on the classroom roof. This caused an absolute mayhem in the classroom. A2.1.a)Kali felt this way . He felt this way because he had no friends in class and they may not like the teacher appreciating Kali. b)He expected that he would never have any friends and he would not be thrown out of school as the teacher liked his work. 2.a) The children ran in different directions to find a bag to put the snake in. b) They all had admiration for Kali's bravery. 3.a)The boys were grinning at each other because the who was scared himself was scolding the children for being afraid. b)Kali had become friends with everyone so the word “friends” is being used.

Ans `1. India is called an agricultural country because around three fifths of indians depend on agriculture for a living. It provides food for the people and raw materials for the industries . Our farmers produce a variety of crops as we have favourable climate , fertile soil and adequate rainfall. Ans 2. Food crops are those crops that provide food for the people.eg. Rice , wheat, pulses, millets and maize. Cash crops are crops grown to be sold in the market . They help farmers to earn money. eg. Sugar cane, jute , cotton and oilseeds. Ans.3. The government helps farmers in the following ways:- a) Many multi purpose projects have been built to supply water for irrigation . b) Farmers are being educated about the benefits of manure and organic fertilizers and how to use them. c)Loans are provided to them so that they can buy modern agricultural tools and machines such as tractors . d) They are also provided with better quality seeds . Ans 4.Iron is the most important metal. It is used in building bridges, buildings , machines, tools and making utensils and many other things. Ans 5. It is important to conserve our mineral resources because they are limited in quantity. Once used , they cannot be replaced.1. Coal and petroleum are non -renewable resources because they are limited and reduce in quantity as they are used. 2. Forests are large areas of land thickly covered with trees. They are useful to us in the following ways:- a) Trees and plants give us the oxygen we need to breathe. b) The roots of the trees prevent the soil from being washed away. c) They provide us with food , fruits,timber, medicines etc. d) Forests provide shelter to animals and birds. 3. Evergreen forests are green throughout the year. The trees here are tall and do not shed their leaves at the same time. They are found in areas with heavy rainfall such as Western Ghats, North East India and Andaman and Nicobar Islands . Trees found here are :- rosewood, ebony and mahagony. 4. Deforestation leads to soil getting washed away , floods and landslides . There is less rainfall and less oxygen for us to breathe. Many animals , birds and people lose their homes when forests are cut down. 5. Wildlife sanctuaries are set up to protect wildlife . We have a large variety of animals and they are hunted by us for their skin ,fur ,horn and tusks. So the government has set up Sanctuaries to protect animals and forests.

Class 6. The chocolate cream Soldier.

Ans 1.The man is an experienced soldier who sees no glory in war and that is why he has a different view on it. To him a cavalry charge is like slinging a handful of peas against a windowpane. First one soldier comes , then two or three follow close behind him and then they all rest in a lump. Ans 2. According to the stranger the first man in the cavalry charge that day was the funniest of sights. He led the charge with much animation and a war cry . He looked as if he was under an illusion that he had done a great thing whereas in reality he made the worst mistake of leading his regiment into a sucidal attack. Ans 3. Raina thought Sergius was noble and brave but the man thought that he was the biggest fool. He thought he had done a clever thing but he ought to be court martialled for leading himself and his regiment into almost commiting suicide . He was plain lucky that the enemy did not have cartridges. Ans 4. The soldierly thing which Raina wanted to do was to help the man to escape.She would go to the balcony and check if it was safe for him to climb down the balcony. Ans 5. 'It' refers to death. The man did not have the courage to walk into the street full of soldiers who would not hesitate to shoot him down in cold blood. 1.a) Sergius is being referred to here. b) This shows that Sergius is exaggerating the situation by comparing him with a opera singer. c)The enemy nearly burst out laughing at the sight of him charging in the overly heroic manner. 2.a)
