I am Here To Speak

Ans 1.Severn was twelve years old when she gave this speech.She started working for The environment and social justice since she was in kindergarten.

Ans 2.She gave the speech at the Earth Summit which was held at Rio DE Janerio in the year 1992.She had come there to make the adults realize that they were spoiling the world. She pointed out their mistakes and asked them to mend their ways so that the coming generations would be able to see the beauties of the world.

Ans 3. She is afraid to go out in the sun because there are holes in the ozone layer. She is afraid to fish because once she had gone fishing in Vancouver with her father and found that the fish was full of cancer.

Ans 4. She talks about the following problems which humans cannot solve. They cannot fix the holes in the ozone layer. They cannot provide clear stream for the fish. They cannot bring back extinct animals. They cannot bring back the forests to the barren deserts.

Ans 5. A street child in Brazil told her that if she were rich she would give all the street children food, clothes, medicines, shelter, love and affection.

Ans.6. She feels that the government should not only make laws for conservation and protection of the environment but also see that they are put into action . They should see that the world is not damaged further.

1,a) This line is addressed to all the people attending the Earth Summit.
b) The earth is being broken: holes are created in the ozone layer, the animals have gone extinct, the streams have gone dry,the forests have been cut.

Clas 4. Our Water Wealth.


Ans1.Sea water cannot be used for drinking or irrigation as it contains salt.

Ans 2. Rivers are full of water during the monsoon months , so very often there are floods during these months . The extra water simply flows into the sea. On the other hand , many rivers dry up during the hot summer months causing shortage of water.

Class 5 Saudi Arabia


SAUDI ARABIA
Ans 1. The climate of Saudi Arabia is hot and dry. The country gets very little rainfall
, the humidity is very low and the sun shines bright and hot throughout the year. The
nights are cool,as the sand in the desert cools down quickly at night. During winter, the nights are very cold.

Ans. 2. Plants like cacti and short shrubs , which can withstand the heat and require less water to
survive and grow in Saudi Arabia. Date palms , wheat and barley are grown in the area.

Ans 3. Peninsula:- A part of land that is jutting out into the sea and is surrounded by sea on three sides is called a peninsula

Oasis:- Places in the desert , where underground water comes to the surface forming fertile areas
is called an oasis.

Ans 5.Saudi Arabia is rich because of vast deposits of petroleum. Petroleum is exported all over the world making Saudi Arabia a rich country.
