The cricketer asked the umpire if it was time for tea. 6. The young man asked me what had he done to deserve such bad luck. 7. The delegate enquired where he could buy some stationery. 8. The manager asked me whether I would like to change my room. I replied that I would not. 9. The shopkeeper enquired of me whether I would like him to deliver the goods at my residence. 10. I enquired of my friends whether I should buy the tickets Class 6 English Inbox x Bird watcher 1.Mrs Fischer felt embarrassed because her eleven year old son, Cyril , created a scene in the presence of their house guest Dr, Rao who had come from India. 2. Dr. Gopal Rao was an expert on birds. He had come from India. 3. Cyril loved peeking into birds nests. 4. Cyril was impressed by Dr. Rao as he shared his childhood adventures regarding his interest in bird watching. Dr. Rao told him he too hated going to school when he was Cyril's age. Instead he loved peeking into birds nests. 5. As Cyril was going through Dr. Rao's books on birds he saw the picture of a bird he had seen during one of his bird­watching sessions. He had spotted their nest in a huge oak tree . This surprised Dr. Rao as that bird , the black robin of Chatham Island , was one of the rarest birds . He couldn't believe that Cyril had spotted it. 6.Dr. Rao wanted Cyril to take him to the black robin's nest . He wanted to see the bird for himself and confirm the authenticity of what Cyril had told him. 7.The next morning dr. Rao found two black robins in the oak tree. They twittered and stirred out of their nests. 8. He planned to steal the eggs of the black robins and mingle them with eggs in other bird's nests.The black robins would then lay fresh eggs . In this manner the number of eggs of this rare bird could be doubled. 9. Dr. Rao instructed Cyril to wash his hands , dry them , and lift the bird's eggs very carefully with a spoon like an instrument and transfer them into a container. Both the spoon and container had been rinsed in a disinfectant . Next he had to place an egg in each of the two warlber's nests. They marked boththe trees . He was asked to destroy the robin's nest , so that they would build a new nest and lay fresh eggs. 10. He cleaned up the warbler's nest as the droppings of the baby black robin did not fall out of the small nest. During cold spells the baby might have caught a chill and died . So he cleaned the nest. 11. A3 1.Mrs Fischer was right in a way because like any other mother she was worried about her son not wanting to go to school. 4. Dr. Rao did not lecture him on the importance of attending school, did not discourage his love of bird- watching , instead kindled his interest ,involved him in saving black robins. Cyril felt important and wanted to help . He found someone who appreciated him. ON KILLING A TREE Ans 1.No, a tree cannot be destroyed quickly. A simple jab of knife cannot kill a tree as it has grown slowly consuming the earth and absorbing years of sunlight , air, and water. Its roots are deep down in the earth. Ans. THE TREES “LEPROUS HIDE “ IS THE SKIN RESEMBLING THAT OF A LEPER , refers to the discoloured bark of the tree. Ans. 3. In spite of the harm done to the tree, the bleeding bark will heal and from close to the ground will rise curled green twigs. If they are unchecked , they will expand again to former size as the earth , has anchored and protected the tree strongly and firmly. Ans 4. The most important thing to do while killing a tree is to ensure that the root is pulled out of the earth, its source of security and stability. The tree is to tied with rope and pulled , perfectly snapped out to expose its white and wet roots. Ans . 5. After uprooting the tree its strength is exposed , from the very source that is its white and wet roots. The root which is the most important and sensitive part has been hidden for many years inside the earth and it is only a matter of drying it in the schorching heat of the sun render it lifeless. In the end , the tree will go through a process of browning , hardening, twisting and withering and ultimately , the tree gets killed. A2.1. a) After hacking a tree from close to the ground its bark may heal and produce curled green twigs. The growth of these twigs must be checked. b) If the growth of these miniature boughs are unchecked , they will expand again to their former sizes and the tree will grow back. c) The poet is absolutely broken at the callousness of man. Beyond the physical process of killing a tree , the poet hints at how modern man out of his remorseless selfishness dares to uproot nature and its very soul
