C1. The set of circles drawn horizontally between the two poles are parallels of latitude.
The set of circles drawn through the poles , half of each circle runs from North Pole to South pole are called Meridians of Longitude

  3. The Fire brigade rescues people from dangerous fires and also at the time of other disasters such as floods, earthquakes , road accidents, etc.

Class 6 The Man Who drew Faces


1.The artist was popular among children because he drew faces of animals, toys, children, engines, ships and aeroplanes for them.
  1. Some lines on the face makes it look sad , tired and old.
  2. Sally asked the artist to draw her mothers face after he had drawn her Granny's face.
  3. Sally's mother got worry lines when her brother fell off his bicycle and broke his leg, when granny got very ill and when her father lost his job.
  4. Sally's mother had laugh lines round her eyes because she was fond of jokes,was bright, gay and merry .
  5. Sally gave her mother a curly smiley line because she was a nice, sweet tempered and kind girl.
  6. Sally promised to make the small curly line bigger by being a good and kind girl all the time.
  7. When Sally started asking too many questions the artist went away as he didn't want to answer all her questions.

PREJUDICE AND DISCRIMINATION


C1.When we nfit all persons of a particular group into one fixed image , we create a sterotype. eg. Boys are naughty, girls are gentle.

  1. Discrimination means to make a distinction between people on the basis of class,race, religion, gender , age etc. without regard to individual merit . The sources of discrimination are diversity and inequality.
3. The lowest castes were called untouchables . They were not allowed to draw water from public wells or enter in temples, schools etc.

MAPS

C1. Physical maps are those maps which show the natural features of the earth's surface like mountains, plateaus , plains , rivers etc.
Political maps are those that show boundaries of countries and of states within the country.
  1. The relation between the distance on the map and the corresponding distance on the ground is called scale of the map. eg. 1cm on the map is equal to 100kms on the ground.
3. The symbols used to represent various features on the map are called symbols. These are used to read the map and make it easy to draw maps.

CLASS VI THE EARLIEST SOCIETIES


C1. The things that Palaeolithic man ate were :-
berries
nuts
roots and
tubers.
They survived by :- hunting wild animals and birds
fishing and
gathering wild plants. C2. Ans. Man's first major discovery was fire. Fire was used to drive away wild animals, light up dark caves, roast raw meat and keep them warm.

  1. Palaeolithic people of Deccan dug up large pits and covered them with leaves to hide them from view. Large animals got trapped and fell in them , thus making it easier for them to kill it.
