A FISHY STORY

Ans a) 'They' refers to the eyes in the first line.

b) The eyes rested upon the dusty glass case.

  1. The eyes found a trout in the glass case .

  1. The narrator thought it to be a cod at the first glance.

    Ans a) The landlord is the speaker and he is speaking to George and the narrator.
b) They are the gentlemen who came to the inn and claimed to have caught the trout which was kept in the glass case.

  1. 'It' refers to the trout.
  1. No the story was not real because the trout was not a stuffed fish but made of plaster of paris.
D1. The remarkable thing about catching the trout , according to the local carrier was that he had caught it with a fly.


  1. According to the landlord the real story was that he had caught it himself, when he was a boy ,without any art or skill but sheer luck with a bit of string ,attached to the end of a tree.
  2. The strange thing at the end was that the trout fell and broke into pieces. If the trout was a real stuffed fish it would not have broken.

THE QUEEN OF THE HILLS

Ans 1. Lloyd and Grant discovered the monastry on Observatory Hill and loved its surroundings. A sanatorium was set up there and around this hub developed the township of Darjeeling .

THE BRAVE LITTLE KITE

A 1. He was afraid of flying because he was afraid he would fall.

  1. The big kite convinced the little kite to fly by asking him to try , otherwise he would never learn.
  2. When the big kite rose towards the sky, the little kite gathered courage and prepared himself for flight.
  3. He could see the ground and the little boys appeared as small spots moving around.
  4. The big kite , birds and clouds were companions of the little kite up in the air.
  5. He felt happy and proud of his achievement . He had acted bravely and tried his best.

B1. The big kite encouraged the little kite to try because if the little kite didn't try and simply gave up , he would never learn to fly .

  1. When the little kite saw the big kite soar towards the sky , he stirred.
  1. The little kite was frightened at first and only managed to whirl around . Then he gathered courage and rose up in the air alone , slowly and steadily .
  1. Till the big kite , looking down, could see
the little one rising steadily.
