Class 5 Saudi Arabia


SAUDI ARABIA
Ans 1. The climate of Saudi Arabia is hot and dry. The country gets very little rainfall
, the humidity is very low and the sun shines bright and hot throughout the year. The
nights are cool,as the sand in the desert cools down quickly at night. During winter, the nights are very cold.

Ans. 2. Plants like cacti and short shrubs , which can withstand the heat and require less water to
survive and grow in Saudi Arabia. Date palms , wheat and barley are grown in the area.

Ans 3. Peninsula:- A part of land that is jutting out into the sea and is surrounded by sea on three sides is called a peninsula

Oasis:- Places in the desert , where underground water comes to the surface forming fertile areas
is called an oasis.

Ans 5.Saudi Arabia is rich because of vast deposits of petroleum. Petroleum is exported all over the world making Saudi Arabia a rich country.

Class 5 SST CHAPTER 19

Ans. 1. The reformers felt that social ills like the caste system, child marriage and the killing of female babies kept Indian society divided and backward. Ans.2. The reformers felt educating the public would remove outdated customs and superstitious beliefs and would bring progress to India. Ans 4. The moderates wanted reforms so that Indians could live a better life under the Britishrule. But the extremists wanted the British to leave India and demanded self- rule.

Ans 1. The Portuguese were the first to trade with India. Ans 2. Three other European countries that started trading with India were Denmark, France and Britain. Ans3. Each of the countries trading with India wanted a larger share of the trade so they fought among themselves . In the end , Britain won the fight and took the major share rights to trade with India. Ans 8. The British had superior weapons and greater military strength , so they were able to contain the Revolt of 1857.

Class 6. EUREKA

EUREKA Ans 1. Hiero was the king of Syracuse. He wanted the biggest crown in the world. Ans 2. He called the goldsmith to fashion a crown that would make every other king want to possess it. For this he gave ten pounds of pure gold to the goldsmith. Ans3. The king instructed the goldsmith to put every grain of gold and not to use any other metal with it . Ans 4. Archimedes was a very wise man in the king's court . Though he found the workmanship of the crown exquisite, he was suspicious of the quality of the gold.It was a brilliant yellow . It did not have the same rich colour as the lump of gold given to him by the king. Ans 5.The challange before him was to invent a method to measure the purity of the gold used to make the crown without causing the crown any damage.

Class 6. WE ARE SEVEN

ANS 5. The girl told the poet that her sister Jane was confined to bed and lay in pain for quite some time and finally she died . She was thus relieved of her suffering . Later on her brother John also died and was buried in the churchyard by Jane's side. Ans 6. The girl thought that there was no difference between the dead and the living, and they were still seven sisters and brothers. The poet however understands that they are only five now. Reference questions 1.b. The girl says that they are seven brothers and sisters but accounts for only five. The poet wants to know how this could be. c.She gave account of herself, two in Conway and two at sea. But she said they were seven. This puzzles the poet and he questions her about it. 2.a. It was futile trying to explain to the girl. b. The girl thought that there was no difference between the dead and the living.The poet could not convince the little girl that two of them were dead. c. The poet is correct in his calculations. But the girl is young and innocent, so she should be free to follow her own will.
