Uncle Ken at the Wicket.
Ans 1. Young Ruskin loved to spend his holidays with his grandmother because she was a wonderful cook and she made delicious dishes for him.
Ans 2. The author and uncle Ken did not approve of each other .Uncle Ken did not like small boys. Ruskin did not like him as he did not appreciate granny's cooking. They always tried to outdo each other.
Ans 3. Uncle Ken had been smoking a cigar under a silk -cotton tree without realizing that there was a bee hive above him. The fumes of the cigar disturbed the bees and they attacked him. So he had to run for his life.
Ans 4. Uncle Ken was mistaken for the famous English cricketer , Bruce Hallam at Lucknow station.He resembled Bruce a lot. At the station people welcomed him with garlands and took him to the stadium to play a cricket match. He never protested and even played an innings before running away quietly.
Ans 5. His performance on the field was highly appreciated . He could hardly play but still everyone praised him. Even when he was out the spectators blamed the other batsman.
Ans 6 Emily was Uncle Ken's sister and the headmistress of a school in Lucknow. She kept him as a guest for a week and then forced him to work in the boys dormitory of her school.
A2. 1.a) Uncle Ken said this to granny.
b) Granny said that he had'nt had duck since he was there last month. He pretended to agree by adding that one expects variety from her. Then he took two large helpings and most of the stuffing.
c)The author knew that Uncle ken loved granny's apple sauce . So he emptied all the sauce onto his plate.
2. c) Granny was not irritated by Uncle Ken's presence. By calling him eccentric . She was making excuses for him. 3.a)He was mistaken to be Bruce Hallam , the famous cricketer .
b)It was good for him as he got a rousing reception, a hearty breakfast, lots of compliments and a hearty lunch too.
c)From this event we can say that he was very opportunistic but not bad at heart.
4.b) Granny wanted him to go away as he stayed for long with her and did not show any signs of moving out.So she asked him to find a job.
c)He said that there were no jobs in Dehra. He reacted with shock when granny asked him to go to his sister in Lucknow.

NATURAL RESOURCES

c) Humans depend on the soil for growing cereals, vegetables and fruits.
d) We use clay to make pots and utensils.

wood, medicines, paper and oxygen.
Ans.4.The minerals such as coal and petroleum are non renewable resources. So we should use them carefully and not waste them.

A1.The fasionable amusement among the children of Avonlea was the game 'daring'.Children dared each other to do odd and difficult things.

A2.Before Anne's turn several very amusing acts happened.Ruby Gillis had to climb the huge willow tree to certain point,Jane Andrews had to hop around nonstop on the left leg, and Josie had to walk along the top of the board fence.

A3.She swayed ,lost her balance, stumbled and fell, sliding down the edge of the roof and coming down with a crash.

A4.Anne saw the brighter side of things.Even after falling off the roof and injuring herself grievously she didn't lose her sense of humour and assured Diana that she was not killed but thought she was getting unconscious.

A5.Anne heard that Miss Stacy,the new teacher had curly hair and absolutely fascinating eyes.Every alternate Friday afternoon she took recitation classes , and on other Friday she took her students to the woods for a field day. Every morning and evening she organised physical exercises for the children.
